Improving trauma care for critically bleeding patients: A history, evidence summary and proposed quality improvement...

17 Jan 2024

This document is an early output from the critical haemorrhage project. It presents the history of managing critical haemorrhage in New Zealand, an evidence summary that justifies the proposed next steps and a description of the intended critical haemorrhage project approach. This document is accompanied by the case for change infographic

Understanding the history, current state and evidence is an important part of quality improvement. This document seeks to provide the evidence base for the project’s approach to develop, promote and support the implementation of a nationally agreed best practice guidance, including review and improvement of existing massive transfusion protocols and the development of a national critical bleeding bundle of care. This suite of tools will support both pre-hospital and hospital early identification and effective management of critical haemorrhage in trauma patients.
