This report and presentation summarising key findings, focuses on optimising the use of the following medicines in aged residential care:

  • antibiotics for urinary tract infection to ensure appropriate antimicrobial prescribing
  • antipsychotics for behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (excluding antipsychotic use in those older people with other mental health conditions)
  • fentanyl for chronic pain (excluding its use in end-of-life care).
